Adding External Videos (YouTube) to your Listings

Before you can add videos to your listings you will need to ensure that you have enabled the option in your Freedom account. You can do this by navigating to the eBay -> Settings -> Third Party Connections page where you can select the 'Use External Video' option before clicking 'Save'. Once you have enabled this option you will find an 'Add Video' button during stage 2 of the listing tool.

To embed your video first locate it on the YouTube site and then follow the steps below.

  1. Click Share.
  2. Click Embed.
  3. Choose a Video size. Note that you should select a width that is 600px or less to ensure the video fits within your listing template.
  4. Ensure that the option Use old embed code is selected. The other methods of embedding a video will not be allowed by eBay.
  5. Highlight and copy the code that YouTube generates for you.
  6. During stage 2 of the listing tool click Add a Video.
  7. Paste the YouTube code into the field and click Add Video.

Troubleshooting

I've added a video to my profile and now I get the following error message when I try to list to eBay. Your listing cannot contain javascript (".cookie", "cookie(", "replace(", IFRAME, META, or includes), cookies or base href.
YouTube provides two methods for embedding a video. The newest method uses an IFRAME element that is not allowed by eBay and results in the error message. You must use the second method by ensuing that the option Use old embed code is selected. This will generate code that is allowed by eBay.
I have clicked on Embed but there is no option to select Use old embed code.
There are a few reasons as to why the option is not appearing.
  • You may have switched on the 3D option when uploading the video to YouTube. To disable this option go to Info and Settings, under the video, click Advanced Settings. Under 3D Video choose Disable 3D for this video and save.
  • The video may be part of a playlist on YouTube. When viewing the video the emedding options will be for the playlist and not the video. Viewing the video outside of the playlist should restore the option.
