Overview of bulk importing

By using the 'Bulk Import' feature you can quickly create new profiles or update existing ones, dramatically cutting down the time to having you looking more professional on eBay!

Profile information is imported via CSV or TSV files. The format of which is explain in futher detail in another article.

Importing information is a four step process.

  1. You select which file to import and upload it to your account.
  2. Upon a succesful upload you are presented with a set of options by which you can configure the import process.
  3. The software processes the uploaded file and the information is imported.
  4. A summary of the import is shown.

To begin importing simply navigate to the eBay -> Listings page and click the button. The rest of this article will explain the process in detail.

Step 1

The image below shows the first step in the import process. Click the Browse button to bring up your computer's file dialog and use it to select the file you wish to upload. Clicking the Upload button will begin uploading the selected file from your computer into your account. In the event of any errors the procecss will halt and an error message will be displayed. You will then have the option of trying the upload again.

Upon a successful upload you will be presented with several options as shown.

The options give you control over how the software will process the uploaded file and are explained below.

Select how you wish to handle importing listing profiles that already exist.

The uploaded file may contain information about profiles that already exist in your account. By selecting Do not update you will instruct the software not to overwrite such profiles. Selecting Update will on the other hand will permit the software to update them.

Select the delimiter used in the import file.

A delimiter is the character used in your import file to separate the individual fields. You can choose from Tab or Comma. Choose Tab if you are unsure which character is used.

Select the character that encloses values in the import file.

Your import file may use a specific character to indicate the start and end of a value within a field. You can choose from Double quotes or Single quotes. Choose Double quotes if you are unsure which character is used.

Once you have configured the options click the button and the software will process the uploaded file.

Step 3

The software will process each row of the uploaded file and use the information to import or update a profile. It is important that you do not close your browser or navigate away from the page during the import process. A progress bar and count will be regularly updated to indicate how much of the uploaded file has been processed.

Once the import process has completed a summary will be shown. Information about the number of profiles sucessfuly imported or updated will be displayed. Error messages will be shown if there was any problems during the import process.

Closing the dialog will return you to the eBay -> Listings page.
